Welcome to Community Sparkplugs, a signature program of The Rensselaerville Institute.
Community Sparkplugs is a program that focuses on the power of individuals—most often as volunteers—to lead community change in even the most depressed of settings. It expresses two key principles of the Institute and its outcome work:
- People are as important as plans—if not more so. This program builds on over 20 years of research and experience in defining, finding, and supporting sparkplug individuals to lead change by example. Institute experience in this area covers leadership in such contexts as community action, failing schools, and organizations and programs.
- Volunteer Sparkpklugs often create stronger results than people paid to solve a problem. This fits squarely in our “funder to investor” logic as a way to increase return on grant, contribution and government contract investments.
